Day 2 Ludlow Urban Race

Please note: The new start time of the
event is 5:30 p.m.
We may also have to move the start box, but to no more than
about 100 yards from the start kite.
Please note: If you meet an oncoming runner - keep
left!
Street orienteering is becoming more and more popular and therefore we
are including one in our weekend's fun. It will not count towards a SinS
class winner's prize.
Ludlow is a small town so you should see most of it if you participate
in this activity. The race is scheduled to start early at 6:30 p.m.
This should
ensure an early finish thus avoiding runners witnessing the more rougher aspects of
a Sunday night in Ludlow as it citizens are ejected onto its
streets from their Darby and Joan club nights.
The event start box will be in Castle Square. There is a large car park
within 100 yards of the start.
Full details are yet to be identified, and this page will be regularly
updated as we make progress.

Travel Directions.
Note:
Access to Ludlow from the camp site, and other areas to
the west of the river Teme, are now back to normal. The previously
closed Ludford bridge
over this river has now been repaired and re-opened.
The following directions are aimed at parking you in the Castle
Square car park. Charges apply up until 6:00p.m. Please take care
whilst driving within Castle Square - it will be busy with orienteers!
From the camp site:
Exit northeastwards from the camp site along Whitcliffe Road until you have to
halt at it's junction with the B4361. Here you may have to wait a
while for the southern urban orienteering contingent approaching from your
right! Turn left and cross Ludford bridge. Normal vehicles, once
over the bridge should not swing right, but carry straight on. Proceed
under the archway within the town wall. At the top of the road turn left
(compulsory) and drive 300 metres into Castle Square. At the "Give
Way" sign swing right making a U bend and the car park entrance is
on your left between the buildings.
Large mobile homes and those of you still towing a caravan
(why?) will not fit through the town wall arch. Once over the
Ludford bridge swing right and follow the road all the way round up
to the traffic lights. Here, turn left and follow the short narrow road
as it winds its way into Castle Square where you follow the brief route
described for smaller vehicles.
From the north and northwest:
You will need to pick up the A49 in order to swing off left onto the
B4361 (signed) as you approach Ludlow. Follow this past the school,
over the bridge, round the bend and up the main street through to
a second set of traffic lights. Here turn right into a very
narrow street leading into Castle Square. Thereafter as per
directions from the camp site.
From the south:
Off the A49 take the B4361 and follow it until you reach Ludford
Bridge. Thereafter as per from the camp site.
From the east:
Pick up the A4117 and at the roundabout where it meets the A49, go
straight across into Henley Road. Stay on this road for about 500
yards where it starts to bear left. At this point leave Henley Road
by bearing right into New Street. Follow this all the way to a mini
roundabout. Here turn left under the bridge. This road then bridges
over a river after which stop at the at the Give Way sign.
Turn left. You now join the orienteers coming from the north who
have passed the school but not gone over the bridge!
